Northwest
Christian church was established in 1957 to
serve the Northwest area of Columbus, Ohio.
We are a part of the international Christian
Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination. Our
current membership numbers around 350 people.
Our faith is not complicated. We respect and
welcome differences in beliefs, while at our
unified core is the belief that Jesus is the
Christ, the revealed Son of God. We accept his
grace and salvation as a free gift offered to
all who believe. We celebrate a resurrected
Christ and proclaim him as the personal Lord
and Savior of our lives. Holy Communion is celebrated
every Sunday, and we baptize by immersion when
one makes his or her individual statement of
faith in Jesus Christ. As a part of the Christian
Church (Disciples of Christ), we are committed
to working towards Christian unity.
Our hearts have been inspired, throughout the
years by the strength of spirit shown by our
ministers. They have faithfully led us to be
a congregation in mission. From young children
to older adults, we are committed to living
out our faith. Our children are involved in
hands-on outreach projects like collecting macaroni
or rice to help to feed the hungry. Our elementary-age
kids participate in Kids of the Kingdom, a Bible
study - music - fellowship based youth group
program that meets weekly. They lead us in worship
each May with their presentation of a Biblical
story through music and drama.
Our middle school and high school youth groups
are strong and active. In addition to weekly
youth meetings, these teenagers present their
Christian witness each Spring through the presentation
of a major musical which is fully staged and
choreographed. Past offerings have been "Joseph
and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,"
"Jesus Christ Superstar," and "Godspell"
to name a few. Our youth choir is exceptional!
Our youth also participate in a bi-annual mission
trip where they serve others who are in need.
Adult opportunities for mission and service
abound at Northwest! Through outreach efforts,
like Habitat for Humanity and NNEMAP Food Pantry;
through sharing of musical gifts and talents
in four varied adult choirs; through Christian
education in Sunday School, Bible studies, and
special speakers; we are connected to God's
Word and to each other! Our fellowship, too,
is vital to the life of our church community.
We welcome your presence in worship with us!
Let us share our Christian love with you in
this caring and supportive family of believers! |
